Your washroom is underdressed

Your washroom is underdressed

The most overlooked room in your home is also the most visited. It's time to treat it accordingly.

"One can never overstate the importance of accessories. They are what turns a dress into something else." ––Yves Saint Laurent, 1977

Your washroom works the same way. Get the bones right, then let the details do the talking. And most bathrooms, frankly, aren't doing any talking at all.

We don't ask for much. A candle, perhaps. A towel that doesn't scratch. But somewhere between convenience and habit, the washroom became a room we tolerate rather than a room we inhabit. That ends here.

Washroom rules to live by:

01. Edit before you add

The first law of good design—in fashion, in interiors, in life—is subtraction. Clear the counter. Remove what doesn't earn its place. The washroom should feel like a curated wardrobe, not a lost and found. Start with negative space, then decide what truly belongs.

If it wouldn't sit on a marble shelf in a Parisian apartment, it doesn't sit on yours.

02. Intentional lighting

Overhead lighting is the strip-lit changing room of the design world; unflattering and uninspired. Replace or supplement with warm sconces at eye level. Candlelight in the evening. The washroom, at its best, is a private, calming place, allowing you to reset before re-entering the public domain.

03. One scent, always

A signature scent is a design decision. Choose one diffuser, one candle, one soap and commit. Olfactory consistency is the invisible architecture of a well-designed room. It tells guests, and yourself, that the space has been considered.

04. Presentation is not optional

How something is displayed is as important as what it is. Fold your towels. Decant your products. And yes, even the toilet roll matters. A neat, considered presentation signals care. It is the sartorial equivalent of pressing your clothes before you leave the house.

Toilette is toilet paper designed for bathrooms that take themselves seriously. Softness, structure, and presentation; because every detail deserves to be considered.
